Danbury Democratic Town Committee

Danbury, CT 06810

A regular meeting of the Democratic Town Committee was held on September 10, 2007 at Democratic headquarters, 161 Main Street.  The meeting was called to order at 7:40 P. M.

Present:  DaSilva L, Merante, Morgan, Abrantes, Coladarci, Cooke, Saadi, Tomaino,
Conciatore, DaSilva J, Lewis, Braguez, Armstrong, Lees, Halfar.

Absent:  Anders, McNamara, Golwala, Neptune, Kelly, Estefan P, Estefan S, Kaback, Knight.

Tom Saadi made a motion to accept the call of the meeting.  Eileen Coladarci seconded.
The motion passed unanimously.

Eleanor Lewis made a motion to accept the minutes of the previous meeting.  Tom Saadi noted
that the Secretary cast the one vote to appoint Sonnie Council to the Committee and that change
will be made.  Kevin Morgan then made a motion to accept the minutes with the change.
Eleanor Lewis seconded.  The motion passed unanimously.

Guest Speaker:  No speaker at this meeting.

Public Participation:  Al Robinson feels that we Democrats should hold Mayor
Boughton accountable for various issues including the Parade Ordinance, Sex Offender Ordinance
and most especially the BRT tax credit.

Ken Gucker has already started to door knock.  He has found that many of the people that he
has talked to are not at all happy with the Mayor.  They are concerned with overdevelopment
and the BRT tax issue.  Ken feels that Helena needs to be shouting out what she is all about
and her plans to fix our City.

Correspondence:  A letter was received from Patricia A. Bowen withdrawing her name as a
candidate for Common Council at Large in the November election.

Marcia Kendall sent a letter resigning her Fifth Ward Town Committee seat.  She felt she had too many commitments with work and school to be able to continue on the committee.

Michael Seri sent the Town Committee his letter of resignation and asked that Bernie
Gallo's be named to fill his vacancy.

Chairman DaSilva asked that the call be amended to include accepting the resignation of Mike
Seri and to consider his request to have Bernie Gallo fill his seat Eleanor Lewis made the motion
and Linda DaSilva seconded.  After some discussion and questions by Tom Saadi, Glenda
Armstrong and Chris Halfar, Bruce R. Lees made a motion to appoint Bernie to the second
ward vacancy.  Eleanor Lewis seconded.  All members voted yes with the exception of
Glenda Armstrong and Chris Halfar.  The motion passed and Bernie took his seat at the table.

New Business:

Election2007

Chairman DaSilva reported that there was good participation by candidates and Democrats
alike during Taste of Danbury and the Irish Festival as well as the Portuguese flag ceremony.

Joe stated that much help would be needed at headquarters this election session to phone,
stuff envelopes, walk with candidates and drive candidates as well.

Chairman DaSilva told the committee about a speech that Howard Dean recently gave were he
said that we need to energize young voters because in 2004 26% more voters under 30
voted Democratic and they did so again in 2006.

Old Business:

Clambake

The Clambake was held on Sunday August 26.  It was well attended and all had a good
time.  Chairman Da Silva thanked all who help make the event a success and special thanks
went out to Kevin Barry, Frank Anders and Tony Tomaiino for the cooking they did the day
before as well as Frank and Tony melting in the kitchen the day of.  Bruce Lees, Bob Williams,
Fred Visconti and Cathy Perruzzi helped set up tables and lent a hand all day long.  John
Esposito did a great job with the clam bar.  Thanks again to everyone who participated in this
year’s event.

Glenda Armstrong wanted to know what happened to the petition that was part of the table
at the Taste of Danbury.  She also suggested a rally of candidates to keep the momentum
oing.  One idea was to have a voting machine training/rally at headquarters

Kevin Morgan is heading the walking campaign.  Please keep him informed of the streets your
ward candidates are walking and when they walked.  Remember, no walking after dark.

Bobbi Anders is heading up the absentee ballots.  Please get her any requests that you have.

Reports:

     Chair

Chairman DaSIlva asked that all committee members try to be available all day on Election Day.
Help will be needed at headquarters, Wooster Hose and Padararam firehouse as well as at the
polls (see Marge Gallo).  Drivers will also be needed.

The Wards that will be concentrated on are 1,2,3,and 7.  Joe feels they should be walked
before the FERC meeting.  Wards 4,5,and 6 will do the bulk of the work on their own.

Treasurer:  Linda DaSilva reported that as of 9/08/07 our balance was $10224.47.  The
clambake netted about $4002.00.

State Central:  Jim Maloney said that State Central voted to endorse Chris Dodd for President,
as the Town Committee did.  Jim also thanked Bob Godfrey, Jason Bartlett and Joe Taborsak for
their help with the West Street Armory.  It soon will house programs for kids though better
supervision of the kids involved is still needed.

Dianne Eppinger said that the Dodd fundraiser held on August 26 was very successful.

State Officials:  Bob Godfrey reported that the Governor controls the bond $$$ and wants her
people to have the bulk of it.  He feels that she is not really trustworthy.  Bob also questioned
the Avon Mountain issue and feels a task force is not needed, quick action to prevent
another accident is what is needed.  The Judiciary Committee will be holding its first hearing
looking into parole issues as a result of the murders in Cheshire early this summer.   Much
research will be needed to decide if more prisons are needed or should the current
prisons be enlarged.  The question also is did a good system break down or is there problems
in the system itself.

Joe Taborsak said that the Bonding issue was “shocking “ to him.  He does not understand how
she keeps her “lily white “ image with the public.

Local Officials:  Marge Gallo told the committee of several important dates coming up, among
them are October 2,2007 and October7, 2007when voter registration and a demonstration of the
new voting machines will take place at City Hall.

October 23,2007 is the deadline for mail-in registration

October 30,2007 is the walk-in deadline for voter registration

If you have any questions you can contact Marge Gallo at City Hall.

Tom Saadi reported that the recent candidate training went well.  Two or three thousand doors
have already been knocked with many more to go.  Tom presented the interim Unity Committee
report to the Town Chair.  The only news Tom had from the Common Council meeting
was the appointments to the Charter Revision Committee that included democrats Tom Green,
Peter Buzaid, Paul Swenson and Stephan Olivo.

Committees:  Eleanor Lewis reported that there is only $22.00 left in the sunshine fund.
Please see her with your $10.00 so she can continue to send cards and flowers.  Thank You.

Eileen Coladarci made a motion to adjourn the meeting.  Barbara Braguez seconded.
The meeting was adjourned at 9 P.M.

Respectfully submitted

Catherine Conciatore
